It was reading
day, the school provided activity for students after they finished learning in
the morning. They had students to watch movie at Panakukung mall movie
theater. After deciding among the senior group, we agreed to go with our
students. We were surprised by how the
students got there. They used their own vehicle and all of them arrived at
Panakukung save and sound.
Unfortunately,
the seats of the same movie with the students were full. What a disappointed! It
was ok, we found new movie, The Boy. To be honest, we couldn’t communicate with
the staff. We tried to ask if the movie wasn’t Indonesia dub, but she didn’t
understand, we asked students to help. That’s when we finally could watch The
Boy with English language.
The first period of school starts at 7 a.m. and
we must’ve arrived at school at 6:50. So, I had no choice accept woke up really
early hence I woke up at 4.50 and it was so traumatic because our room so cold
and the water in the bathroom was as cold as ice.
When we
were at school we separated into two groups, one went to junior building and
the other group went to senior building. Liew, Eve, Aomsin, Anne and I went to
senior building. We talked to English teacher, Mr.Rizal, and he gave us the
time table for teaching. We even learned new word from him, and he learned new
word from us too. I’ve got the third grade (grade 12).
After getting time schedule, we started the
routine. With different time, we agreed to accompanied each other. We could get
various methods from various classes. See? How smart we were?
We got to the class and introduce ourselves. Students
were excited about us. That day Mr.Rizal taught hobby and the ideal people, and
then he’d asked students to act their ideal people in front of the class. There
was one group chose One Direction and they must’ve sung in front of everyone,
but the point was they were too shy to act out hence they asked for help. It was
Liew and I, we had to sing One Direction song called What Makes You Beautiful. For
god sake! I’m The Wanted fan, why can I even sing this song? But I can. LOL
I performed
micro teaching on Monday and Tuesday at UNM in order to get myself prepared. There
would be 5 people in each day. The rule was if your friend was teacher, then
the rest was student. The first day, ma’am Widya was our supervisor and after
one person finished teaching, she'd asked for the other’s comment.
Micro teaching performed by me.
On Tuesday
ma’am Widya brought her friend to give us comment and reflection. I was the
last one to perform and I made Nutcha fell down the floor according to my
interesting activity (Haha). Finishing micro teaching, we had to discuss on
transportation to Athira Islamic School. We finally agreed to use hotel’s car
service every day. That day I had an opportunity to try food in University. It was
a small canteen and the owner is very generous. Moreover, this canteen was more
like buffet, because you just picked the food as you want, then the owner would
look to your plate and charge on it.

Just like home
Let’s color the streets like our own
Let’s make this place feel like our own
It’s just you and me,
It’s alright
‘Cause tonight
We’re gonna paint the town green
*****************
Paint the Town Green by The Script can describe that night well,
because the song is about someone who is missing home but they are far away
from it, however they can make any place like their home somehow.
The Script is
Irish band and green colour is symbolized to Irish Christianity. So, they paint
the town they live with green colour.
After meeting Thai students on Saturday at Losari beach, it turned
out they invited us to having dinner at their place on Sunday.
At 3.30 p.m. on Sunday, we were picked up by P’Sum one of Thai students
and we all took pete-pete to their place. When we got there, there are more 10 Thai
students. Some are studying master degree and some are studying undergraduate
at Universtas Islam Negeri (UIN) Alauddin Makassar. They are from the south of Thailand.
Before having dinner we talked about our program, education, Thai news,
Indonesian culture, and they gave us useful information for living in Indonesia.
We kept talking until one topic that impressed me the most. It was when they
tried to find us. They said, they heard the news that there were other Thai
students at Makassar and would live for 6 months. So, they found the news on
the website of UNM and printed the picture. Then, they went out and showed the
picture to everyone as if they were looking for missing person. Finally, their
efforts have been paid off, they met us at Losari Beach.
The time that I’ve been waiting for has come, dinner time! But our
group must’ve separated the girls went to girls’ house and the boys went to
boys’ house. It’s fine with us; as long as we had Thai food and it’s free we
could go anywhere.
Even though, we only had Thai-style omelet and fried chicken with
chili paste. That was my best meal so far in Indonesia.
I supposed to go to
school on Friday, but I felt unwell, my throat was sore and I had a cold. So, I
just lay down on the bed all day while my 10 friends visited Athira Islamic
School. When they got back to the hotel, I received the news that I would teach
senior high school. By the way, the school divides to junior and senior. They
don’t call grade 7th, grade 8th at all. They call grade 1st
of junior, grade 1st of senior.
The empty chair was my spot!!
On the Saturday, Nia
and Abe guided us to travel around the city. They took us to Fort Rotterdam, Trans
Studio Bandung studio and watching the sunset at Losari beach.
The first destination
was Fort Rotterdam, we must have paid the entrance fees to visit the place and
with some advice we remained silence, because the cost is higher if you are the
foreigner and with the look of us are similar to Indonesian we paid the fee
cheaply. Oh, I felt so guilty and I knew I cheated.
Fort Rotterdam has beautiful grass that you couldn't resist
We took one and half
hour to Trans Studio Bandung. It is an indoor amusement park where is located
in the mall with the same name, Trans Studio Bandung. When I was there I found
out the ticket price is almost 180,000 Rp. um, is that too expensive? So, I
started to consider. Here’s the thing, I exchanged money from Thailand and I
had 1,187,000 Rp. I had more in my ATM card but I didn’t want to spend too much
money on one day. Plus, I was hungry, if I paid for the ticket and went inside.
Will the amusement park has the restaurant inside? And if it has, how much does
it cost? So, I came to conclusion that Aomsin and I’d love to find something to
eat outside. Then we just walked around the mall and looked for Suki place
which we’ve seen when we walked past it, the place’s called X.O.Suki. When we
got in the restaurant, the waiter took us to the good spot, but when they
handed the menu, we saw nothing relevant to the Suki’s pot on the table. We
flipped over and over pages and we still found nothing but the dumpling,
wanton, steamed bun. I tried to ask the waitress, and she answered me with the
beautiful smile, she’s pretty girl, though. It took her for a while to realize
that we needed some help. So, she went to ask the waiter who took me the spot.
And thanks god!! He speaks English. That was when we finally had vegetable and
meat for cooking Suki. All you had to do just went to the fridge and chose
anything that you want. The funny thing is the price of that meal was 244,083
Rp. Well, it’s as much as Trans Studio ticket. When we finished eating we found
Abe and Nia in front of the toilet, because they didn’t go in the Amusement
either and we all had to wait for our friend who were enjoying in Trans Studio.
We talked about our favourite thing, exchanged our culture, and eventually we
made video.
It’s time to watching
sunset at Losari beach. In that place we found a group of Thai students they
are studying master degree and they can speak Melayu language.
Oh! And that day I met Anita and her family and
they can speak English, she’s studying at Hasanuddin Unversity. I wish I could
take a picture of her and me. What a shame! Because I really like her.
After spending the night listening to the honking sound of
Indonesia Traffic, now it was time for Aomsin and me to see it with our own
eyes because it was morning! When the rest of us still slept the room, we
decided to go around the hotel to find something to eat. Stepping out of the hotel
door, the sound of honking was louder than we thought, the traffic seemed very
busy, motorcycles scattered around the road. What a way to drive! I felt
fearful of the traffic and the same time I respect all the drivers there
because they are so good for driving. Though the traffic was very busy, but
there wasn’t any accident happened. R-E-S-P-E-C-T!!!! Too bad I didn’t take any
picture of the road. I think you have to see it with your own eyes because this
is their charm. I like it.
We went down the pavement for finding some canteen or maybe food
stall. And we found one; this canteen is called Café Gangnam. (By the way, I
was told that Indonesia food is unreasonably spicy. Umm, no the taste of
Indonesia food is quite sweet and sour. I've also noticed that almost every
menu served with sliced lime, sweet sauce and the minced chili paste I believe
it is called sambal.) So we stepped inside and tried to read the menu. Unfortunately,
it’s written in Bahasa Indonesia. We didn’t know what to do, but the food smelled so good and we were wanted to try something. Then, we point to the picture and
it turned out they were Bukso and Pangsit. The dishes look like noodle in
Thailand. Bakso has three beef balls and fried sour tofu with shred spring
onion, while Paksit has fried wanton sheet and a bit of cantonese. Both dishes
have seasoning with fried shred shallot.
At 11.00 o’clock we had an appointment in UNM. Today we introduced
ourselves and giving publication as if we were superstar from Korea, because
that room full of journalists and photographers. That day was the first time we met Indonesian
friends, and they will be exchange to Thailand on 22 January, as I recall.
And we also met Ma’am Widya. While we were giving publication I told the press
and the members of the meeting that my friend, Liew wanted to sing Thai song
for everyone. And liew had to sing it in front of a big group of people in the
room. My mission is complete for today. Haha
Nasi Beef Katsu
At 1 o’clock ma’am Widya and two Indonesia
friends, Sulaiman and Irwan took us to Panakukung mall. I had my second meals
there. It was Nasi Beef Katsu. At
first glance, I thought it was Chicken Teriyaki. However, Sulaiman and Irwan recomended
us to try Nasi Goreng Ayam (fried rice with chicken) which Aomsin tried
it.
The rain has been falling since we were in Panakukung mall and when we got
back to the room I found some surprising situation. There was water all over
the floor! The roof was leak!! Whatttttt?!?!!! We moved from room 308 to
311. This room was way better, the television was perfect. I could watch Fox Sport,
MTV, Fox Movie, Nickelodeon, and etc. This was real heaven. ^_^
Tomorrow we had another appointment at Athira Islamic School. Oh! I
forget to tell you that 10 of us went to the same school. Hooray!!!!
It's a big bad world outside Carrying' our dreams and all that they mean Trying to make it all worthwhile - Kodaline
**********************************
Starting blog today with
Kodaline’s song called Big Bad World, because from now on I’ll be telling you
about my journey at Sulawesi, Makassar, Indonesia for a month from the 20th
of January – the 18th of February. To be honest, when I was leaving Thailand
I had no feeling for craving or missing anything but this song could describe my
feeling well. Since the name of this
song called Big Bad World but the meaning of song is so beautiful. It’s about
life with the adventure that you have to be in, and it’s also about trying, and
starting to make something new for your life.
On the midst of
January, there are 10 university students who are studying faculty of Education
at Valaya Alongkorn Rajbhat University from Thailand went to Indonesia for
exchanging culture, education and knowledge under the program of The Southeast
Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO). Thankfully, my friends and
I got that opportunity to be an exchange student teacher at Makassar,
Indonesia. There are 8 students from
English Education, 1 student from Mathematics Education and the other 1 from
Science Education. My name is Eve and I’m studying Faculty of Education at
Valaya Alongkorn Rajbhat University under the Royal Patronage. The day I left
Thailand was the hardest day ever, because I hadn’t eaten anything all day and
all of us had to run all day long for transit the plane. And this was our
flight Don Maung > Kula lumpur > Jakarta > Makassar.
At 9.00 p.m. of local
time, we arrived at Sultan
Hasanuddin International Airport. As soon as I arrived there
I started to smell the cigarette, now my thought loomed into cloudy mood,
thinking “oh mine! How come I forgot that they smoke cigarette here? And how
can I deal with it? It will be 30 days, I’m definitely going to die here”. But then
my though faded away because I saw 2 girls and 1 boy holding the sign said
VALAYA ALANKORN RAJABATH. Then all of depressed, exhausted, tired slipped away.
We all ran into that group, greeting and introducing to each other. They are
the volunteer students from Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM), Nia, Abe and
Amin. Then, they took us to the Hotel where is across the UNM, La Macca Hotel. We met Mr.Yassir for the first time there. He and
ma’am Widya were in charge to taking care of us. There
were five rooms for us. So, it will be 2 people in one room. I lived with my
classmate, Aomsin. So, now she turned to be my roommate. And we finally had
something to eat, Instant noodle from the Hotel Mini Mart.
